Programs Offered

Short Term Counseling Services

There are times we could all use help in resolving problems in our personal lives.  Radiance EAP offers confidential, face-to-face counseling with a licensed clinician. We are ready to assist you with personal and family issues that you may be facing. The EAP counselor will help you define the issues, sort things out, and develop a plan of action. This is the heart of what EAP does: helping you get in control of the situation so that it is more manageable. In some cases, the EAP will refer you to an ongoing or specialized resource. If so, referrals are usually made within your medical insurance plan to help offset costs.

Critical Incident Response

A tragic accident, sudden unexpected death, violence at work or home, suicide, terminal or chronic illness: when these events happen, they usually are emotionally overwhelming to those who witnessed the event or knew the people involved. Critical incidents cause significant physical, cognitive, and emotional reactions. It is important to remember that these are normal reactions to an abnormal event. The EAP provides critical incident response services, which encompass a variety of group interventions after the incident. Critical incident response includes confidential sessions designed to reduce the impact of the event, accelerate recovery, and return people to everyday functioning. Depending on the situation, Radiance is able to provide group debriefing sessions or individual critical incident counseling. Our Critical Incident professionals can advise you on the most appropriate response plan.

Grief/Trauma

The death of someone that we know, whether that person is a family member or a friend, is a difficult challenge that we all must unfortunately face at some point in our lives. How each of us will go about coping with that loss may be very different, as we work through our emotional reactions and thoughts about the person and the situation. The goal is to allow yourself to experience and adjust to the change that comes from the grieving process. In addition to the emotional impact of losing someone, you may experience physical symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, gastrointestinal problems, tightness in the chest or throat, or a “feeling of numbness”. You may also find yourself preoccupied with thoughts of the person, resulting in a loss of concentration or motivation. These experiences may not happen to every person who is grieving, but if they do they can usually be considered a normal part of the process.

Sometimes the grieving process becomes too much to manage on your own. You may find yourself experiencing severe changes in behavior, or intense physical reactions such as sleep and appetite disturbances. In extreme cases, our own feelings of loss may result in a preoccupation with death and contemplation of suicide. If you are experiencing these types of problems, you may want to seek out a professional counselor who can help you manage your symptoms and refer you to the appropriate resources.

Domestic Violence Offenders Group
This 24-week program is dedicated to de-emphasizing the self-centered goals an offender develops when s/he lashes out at their partner and children for short-term self-gratification and a feeling of “personal power.”
Offenders who want to change their abusive behavior need to accomplish four key initiatives:
(5) They need to be willing to give up ultimate control in their relationships
(6) They need to take total responsibility for their abusive behavior
(7) They need to cooperate with their partner to resolve disagreements in a mutually respectful manner, and
(8) They need to establish collaborative goals with their partner that reflects collective needs.
The Domestic Violence Offender Group addresses the four initiatives in a collaborative, positive setting that encourages sharing experiences that produce violent reactions in a family environment. Domestic Violence Intimate Partner Services

This service is designed to promote self-understanding and awareness of domestic violence in the lives of participants. Through psycho-education, assessments and self-development techniques, the participants will develop skills in successfully moving on from the trauma of domestic violence in their lives. Even though there are incidents where women have used violence in their intimate relationship, most intimate partner violence takes place where men are the perpetrators and women are the victims. Most women appear to use violence as a way to defend themselves or their children or to get back at their partners for past and ongoing violence. Women typically do not control, intimidate or cause fear in their partner when they use violence. Therefore, this program is structured based on the premise that women are the victims of domestic violence and therefore can benefit from a program that will help them gain insight on the impact of violence and to overcome the trauma of abuse through self-empowerment.
